Great Gatsby

Goodbye from The Great Gatsby

Super sad news this morning. One of our favourite city centre bars has announced that they have had to lay-off their staff.

The Great Gatsby has been a key player on the Division Street bar scene for almost 10 years but struggled in recent years as Sheffield city centre night life has quietened, having to close for 5 months and issues with the landlord sealed their fate.

A statement on social media reads:

“Hello friends, we wanted to break the radio silence and give a bit of an update on all things Gatsby. None of which is good.

It’s looking less and less likely that we will reopen any time soon. A combination of a protracted battle with the landlord and the limitations of the building have meant that, this morning, we had to take the horrible decision to lay off our staff.

The Great Gatsby has traded at 73-75 Division street for just shy of a decade. It’s been a huge part of our life and without it there’d be no Picture House Social and no Public.

The final word has to go to all the staff who’ve worked here past and present, they made it their home and it just wouldn’t be Gatsby’s without them.

If any other hospitality businesses are looking for staff please please get in touch, we would love to find all our gang new homes.

Lots of Love – The Great Gatsby”

This place will be missed.
