Staple DIY music venue The Lughole needs your help to re-open, after being forced to close.
The volunteer run space was founded in 2013 by Sheffield bands, promoters, DIY and punk artists – all with a collective aim. They wanted to provide an affordable venue and practice space for bands, whilst also giving people who were unemployed/on a low income the chance to see live music. Giving the floor to new genres of art/music, that typically wouldn’t get stage time in mainstream outlets, was also key.
Opening New Years Eve in 2013, they went from strength to strength. Disaster struck when council capacity restrictions forced them to close in 2018. Early last year, they found a new space in Kelham Island, and set out to create Lughole 2.0. Run by the punks, for the punks.
Sadly, Covid has halted their progress dramatically.
Through help from friends and the Music Venue Trust, they have secured some funding, but there is still a long way to go.
The plan – to renovate the space into an approx 200 cap venue, with 5 practice rooms/workshops and a bar area. Licenses, training, and building regs are also needed.
How you can help – spread the word and donate here if able, to help them hit their target.
You can also support by sending any fundraising ideas you have to lugholesheffield@gmail.com, or contact them here.
A call for new members/volunteers, will soon be released on their social media outlets too, so keep your eyes peeled!
