Dont Go Gentle

Idles film screening plus Q&A at Abbeydale Picture House

On the 24th June the iconic Abbeydale Picture House will be screening Don’t Go Gentle, a documentary about the rise of UK punk band Idles, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker, Lindsay Melbourne.

When Idles became the unlikely break-through act of 2018 with their second album, Joy as an Act of Resistance which charted at no.5 in the UK, it wasn’t by luck. After years of touring and trying, the punk band’s DIY ethos struck a chord with a bunch of outcasts who used their own enthusiasm to grow the band. We aren’t talking Belieber’s, Swifties or Directionor’s, AF Gang are more than a hashtag, a trend or teenage dream, it’s a community where lines between the band and fans merge, Don’t Go Gentle tells this story.

AF Gang story begins with Lindsay Melbourne, a Sheffield photographer who connected with the band, made great friends at gigs and launched AF Gang on Facebook, a fan-led community with over 30,000 members.
