Post Lockdown Q&A with Paul from Get Wurst

After a year of the COVID-19 pandemic, months of lockdowns, tier systems and restrictions, we are all hopeful that things will get back to normal by the summer. Whilst the government has staggered its roadmap to minimise risk of even more deaths and setbacks, there finally seems to be a light at the end of this dark tunnel.

We are catching up with some of the people behind Sheffield’s independents to find out what they are looking forward to the most.

This week we spoke to Paul from Get Wurst.

Hi, how have you found the past twelve months? What have you missed the most?

It’s been a bit mental, but we had our son Dylan 6 weeks before lockdown started so he has been keeping us busy and whilst constantly trying to adapt the business to work with the new restrictions it has been a bit of a whirlwind. But mainly just missing being able to meet up with family and friends and being able to go for a pint and a sunday roast! Simple pleasures!

What restaurant will you be going to first & what will you be eating?

100% going to get booked into Ashoka as soon as they open! We’ve had takeaways from there but we’ve missed being able to get in there for the full experience! Bring on those mustard pepper lamb chops! Also looking forward to getting some Slick Chicks Fried Chicken and a roast at The Broadfield

Where will you be having your first drink?

Now we run the kitchen in Two Thirds that’s where I’ll be the majority of the time and they have a cracking selection of beers so probably a little crawl of the Abbeydale Road strip, getting some Bao from Deckards at Barrowboy and finishing up with a late one at Picture House Social! I mean this all depends on having a day off and getting a babysitter though haha!

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt during the past year?

I think just to appreciate the simple things, we take for granted the simple pleasures like being able to hang out with pals, inside!

And also the strength in communities really, we have had to adapt as a business constantly and it has been tough but local folk have been really supportive of our business and the different ways we’ve operated helped to keep us going and coming out the other side!

What are you most excited for when things get back to normal?

Live music! We’d be at gigs every week before lockdown and travelling about to see bands so to have not done that for over a year is madness! The thought of being in some packed sweaty venue watching a gig seems like bliss right now!
