Whether you’re an outdoors enthusiast, or prefer to watch the adventure unfold from the comfort of your sofa, all are welcome at this friendly, inclusive festival. This amazing event doesn’t just show films. You can chat to adventure sports athletes and film-makers over a beer, have a wander around the exhibitors area in the Outpost, and get involved in the vast array of free adventure themed talks.
For the outdoorsy people, there are Komoot hikes in the Peak District and taster sessions with Black Trail Runners. For the armchair adventurer, there’s a huge array of great films lined up. From climbing, backpacking and spirit of adventure films, to snow, mountain and adrenaline based films.
There’s even a Made in Sheffield section, which showcases the best adventure films made in our hometown over the last year.
Each summer, Festival Founder and Director Matt Heason watches hundreds of film submissions, and selects the top 100 for your viewing pleasure. This labour of love stems from a passion to bring new and diverse talent to the screen, whilst also increasing the representation of women both in front of, and behind the camera.
The team at Sheffield Adventure Film Festival said: ”Lockdowns have given filmmakers time to edit and pull together existing footage, meaning that this year’s submissions are some of the strongest ever.” From skateboarding in the silent streets of San Francisco to being caught in the Austrian Alps during lockdown, there’s sure to be footage and stories like no other year.
The audience will even get the chance to have their say, and see if they agree with a panel of judges by scoring each film as it ends. Safety will be key as they reduce the number of exhibitors and the cinema screen capacity, whilst some of the action will be moved outdoors.
Prefer to stay home? No problem, as this will all be available online too.
